DE Dante Sawyer Likes Buckeyes Early On

There are very few recruiting hot beds in the southeastern United States as loaded as Georgia’s Gwinnett County is on a yearly basis.

Consequently, the popular suburb of Atlanta has become a preferred destination for college coaches across the country looking to load up their rosters with some of the best players the nation has to offer in a talent-rich state.

When former Florida and current Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer called the shots in Gainesville, Fla., he made raiding Georgia a high priority on his recruiting wish-list, and according to Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett defensive end Dante Sawyer, Meyer again has the Peach State squarely in his sights.

“It’s a possibility,” Sawyer said with a smile when asked if Ohio State is his current leader.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound bull off the edge was a standout during Monday’s AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl, and without a doubt was one of the top players in attendance.

While Sawyer may or may not have tipped his hand in regards to what school he is presently leaning to, he did reveal that several of the state’s most talented players are currently planning to venture up north together next month.

“Probably go to Ohio State in February with (Liberty Co. linebacker) Raekwon (McMillan), and (Peachtree Ridge safety) Nick Glass and (Sandy Creek receiver) Demarre Kitt,” Sawyer said. “We’re probably going to head out there.”

Ohio State is currently Sawyer’s only scheduled visit in the coming months, but he did say that he has been in contact with Florida as of late, going back and forth with Gators coaches on Facebook.

“I’m looking forward to hearing more from them,” Sawyer said.

As far as his experience this week and on Monday, Sawyer said he had a great time during the week’s festivities, despite coming out on the losing end on the scoreboard.

“It was a great experience, I loved doing it,” Sawyer said. “I wouldn’t mind coming back again, but I’m going to be a senior next year. Practice was fun, playing against a lot of boys who are highly ranked.”
