CB Nick Ruffin closes strong at Georgia Junior Bowl

Despite coming up on the short end of things scoreboard-wise at Monday’s AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl, Atlanta (Ga.) St. Pius X cornerback Nick Ruffin had a big day on the field.

Lining up against the state’s top wide receiver in Demarre Kitt on multiple occasions, Ruffin more than held his own, breaking up multiple pass attempts and proving that his name should be mentioned among the state’s best players,.

“I feel like the first day I started off a little rough,” Ruffin said of his practices with the East team. “But as each day passed I definitely picked it up, and I eventually got the hang of it.”

Ruffin had a short window to get prepared for Monday’s game, as his St. Pius X team played in the state championship game only a couple of weeks ago, a game they eventually lost to state powerhouse Buford 10-3.

Ruffin will endure another quick turnaround this week as the 6-foot defensive back is headed down to St. Petersburg, Fla., for the Under Armour All-American combine which will take place on Friday.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, Ruffin doesn’t have any definitive visits scheduled at the moment, but he is thinking about taking a trip to a certain school up north which has lately become quite popular with Georgia recruits.

“I might be going to Ohio State in February, but other than that I don’t really have an particular visits lined up,” Ruffin said.

One school Ruffin has been in contact with as of late is Florida, who Ruffin says he talked to last week.

“I like the Gators,” Ruffin said. “They’re good guys. I called coach (Derek) Lewis last week and talked to him briefly.”

While Ruffin has not cranked out a final list of schools, the tough defender who visited LSU and South Carolina during the fall, does know what he will be looking for when it comes time to select a destination.

“Deciding factor will be academics, the program itself and tradition,” Ruffin said. “All those things definitely will play a large role in where I end up going to college.”
