Video: Patric Young, Team USA leave for Latvia

After surviving the final round of cuts for Team USA Basketball, Florida sophomore center Patric Young is overseas in Latvia, preparing for the start of the 2011 FIBA World Championships.

The 6-foot-9, 245-pound center is expected to be a key contributor for the USA squad as they seek a gold medal, and head coach Paul Hewitt is counting on his veteran leadership.

Young sat down with a USA Basketball TV crew to talk about the opportunity he has this summer to represent his country.

“We’re all together just for a short period of time and we’re just trying to accomplish something that’s just so big and so huge,” Young said before leaving for Latvia on Friday. “You can’t fathom how difficult it is to just go out to a country with a random group of guys that just have one thing in common: to win a gold medal.”

After winning a gold medal in the 2010 FIBA Americas Championship, Young is happy to represent Team USA again.
