MOBILE, ALABAMA — Former Iraqi Information Minister Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf (Baghdad Bob) once stated that the bombs dropping on downtown Baghdad was nothing more than elaborate Hollywood trickery. The resident minister of misinformation in Tallahassee has dropped yet another bomb of his own and this time — surprise, surprise — it involves yet another Florida commit.

The story goes that Panama City Bay wide receiver Bert Reed took an unofficial visit to Florida State University on Friday. When I reached Reed for comment Saturday, he questioned this unfounded rumor before I ever got beyond, “How have you been?”

“Mr. McLeod, did you hear about somebody saying that I visited Florida State yesterday?” he said. “It was crazy. I had people calling me all night about it.”

“I didn’t visit anywhere,” Reed explained. “We played Godby last night. I was asleep on the bus on the way to the game, so I didn’t see anything until we got there to play. We won the game and we came back home. The only reason I was in Tallahassee was for a basketball game”

Reed said that nobody even called him for an interview on Friday.

Coincidentally, I was in Panama City Wednesday and Thursday. I met with Reed at Bay High School on Wednesday afternoon and taped a video interview that you’ll soon see exclusively on GatorCountry.com. In that interview, Reed directly addresses his recruitment

Reed spoke glowingly of his visit with coaches Urban Meyer, Chuck Heater, and Dan Mullen. While Reed and I were taping the interview Bay assistant coach Conrad Moon, whose son, Jarad is a former Florida State center joked with Reed and myself about his commitment to Florida State. Jarad Moon is married to current Florida State assistant coach Chuck Amato’s daughter. Coach Moon is a Georgia fan, but was hilarious in cutting up with us.

I visited with longtime friend, Quinton Reed, who is Bert’s uncle. Quinton told me how proud the family is of Bert and that they believe he is going to the right school.

Beware!! The next time you stop at that rest area in the Capitol City—the bomb will be dropped on your unofficial visit. Traitor.
