Florida Gators basketball holds on against St. Bonaventure

The University of Florida Men’s Basketball team advanced to 3-0 on Tuesday night with a win over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. It was in no way an easy win as the Gators had to hang on late into the last seconds of the game to win 73-66. After a slow start to the game, the Gators got out to a six-point lead at half with KeVaughn Allen having eight points and providing an early offensive spark for Head coach Mike White and company.

In the second half, the Gators moved quickly and within the first three minutes of the half they had extended their lead to 13 points after two threes by Allen. The Gators could not keep the Bonnies away, however. The Bonnies poured in eight threes and shot 62 percent from the field, just good enough for them to hang around and cut the Gator lead to two points with 50 seconds left. The Bonnies inbounded the ball and put up a miracle three that was short and rebounded by Gator guard Chris Chiozza. Chiozza then found Egbunu in transition to seal the game for the Gators and maintain their perfect record of 3-0.

The Gators leading scorers were Canyon Barry and KeVaughn Allen with 16, followed by Devin Robinson, who continued his offensive explosion through the first three games. The Gators continue their tour of the state of Florida on next Monday as they take on the Belmont Bruins in Tampa and look to improve to 4-0 in this young second year season under Mike White.
