Florida Gators basketball cruises past Belmont

The Florida Gators basketball team advanced to 4-0 on Monday night with a 78-61 victory over the Belmont Bruins in Tampa. The Gators flew out of the gate and capitalized on a turnover-ridden Belmont team early in the game. It was an offensive surge for the Gators as they jumped out to an early 20-point lead over the Bruins.

The lead quickly dwindled as Belmont closed the half on a run that put it only down 12 and heating up from the beyond the arc. Three-point shooting was non-existent for the Gators in the first half as they shot 0-8 from beyond the arc and were ice cold in the closing 10 minutes of the half.

The second half opened with the Bruins sinking a three putting the game into single digits for the first time since 16:18 left in the first half. The lead was cut but the Gators picked up some momentum as Canyon Barry and Kevaughn Allen found some rhythm and stretched the Gators lead all the way to 24-points to put this one away.

The leading scores for the Gators were Canyon Barry with 17 and Kevaughn Allen with 14. Both players were able to sink threes in the second half and guide the Gators to their fourth win of the season.

The Gators will take on Seton Hall on Thursday as they try to get to 5-0 under second-year head coach Mike White before starting a tough stretch of the schedule. Florida will take part in the Advocare Challenge in Orlando starting on Thursday.
