Dotson enjoys his Florida Gators basketball visit

The class of 2018 is loaded with talent, and one of the most sought after recruits is point guard Devon Dotson. The talented guard from Providence Day School in Charlotte has offers from some of the top programs in the country. Dotson is a player that can come in and help a team from day one.

Dotson is confident in his ability to lead a team and be the floor general. Dotson also possesses dynamic speed and quickness that makes him tough to guard.

“I feel that I am a dynamic point guard that is athletic, fast, and quick,” Dotson said. “I think that the way I play puts pressure on the defense. I love to make plays happen for others. I view myself as a floor general who loves to compete and make plays.”

Dotson recently took an unofficial visit to Florida on April 6th. The gators have made Dotson a priority in the 2018 class. The Florida staff really enjoyed having Dotson on campus and Dotson said that he had a great time on his visit to Gainesville.

“I thought it was great,” he said of his recent Florida visit. “I met with the coaches at the basketball facilities where they showed me clips of how I can come in and fit into the system. They talked with me about how great I can be here and how I can develop as a player and as a person.”

The day was busy for Dotson as he got to watch workouts as well as take an in-depth tour of the campus.

“We went to the practice gym and watched them workout,” Dotson said. “I got to see the point guards work out. We then got to go to the academic buildings and meet with the staff there. They took us on a tour of the campus to see the dorms and things like that. At the end of the visit I met back with Coach White and he went over the depth chart and talked about the need at that position and how I can contribute.”

The Florida coaching staff and Dotson have a strong relationship. The staff constantly keeps up with Dotson and it has made a great impression on him.

“I think my relationship with the staff is really great,” he said. “I talk a lot with Coach [Darris] Nichols. He is always checking on me and my family. Coach White is the same way. He keeps in touch with me and checks on how me and my family are doing. It is a great relationship with the coaching staff.”

The Gators will need another point guard to come in after the upcoming season due to Chris Chiozza graduating and Dotson realizes the Gators need at that position.

“After Chiozza leaves they are going to need a point guard to step in and take on that lead role,” Dotson said. “They said that they feel they can put the ball in my hands from day one.”

A great relationship with the coaching staff is a big factor in Dotson’s decision in picking a school.

“I want to be at a place where I can develop on and off the court and improve my game to go to the next level,” he said. “A big factor is having a great relationship with the coaching staff. A place with great academics and stability with the coaching staff is important.”

Florida, Kansas, Villanova, Wake Forest, Louisville, Arizona, and Maryland are among a list of schools that are recruiting Dotson hard. Dotson has no upcoming visits officially planned, but he plans to talk with his parents and talk about potential visits. Dotson is potentially looking to cut down his after the summer.
