Florida Gators softball preview for Ole Miss series

The No. 2 ranked Florida Gators softball team takes its 35-3 (9-3 conference) record on the road this weekend when the Gators travel to Oxford, Mississippi.

This weekend the Gators take on Ole Miss in a key SEC series as the Gators look to rebound from its first weekend series loss of the year last weekend.

Florida still sits at the top of the ranking in SEC play but the Gators will look to retake its No. 1 ranking that Michigan took this week.

Here’s the schedule for this weekend’s game and all games will be broadcasted

That’s a look at this weekend’s games but let’s dig a little deeper into this weekend’s opponent in our scouting report. Here’s a quick scouting report on the Florida Gators softball team as well.

Scouting the Florida Gators:

Florida enters this weekend with a .983 fielding percentage which is the best in the country. The Gators also lead the country with a 0.86 ERA between its three pitchers.

The Gators enter this weekend’s series struggling somewhat at the plate as the bottom half of the order has been slumping. Tim Walton continues to play with his line-up in hopes of finding a spark at the bottom of the order.

Freshman Amanda Lorenz now leads the Gators with a .411 batting average and also leads the team with 10 doubles this year. The freshman left fielder has scored 35 runs which is third best on the team.

Sophomore Kayli Kvistad continues to put together a solid season and is hitting .392 with five home runs this year. Kvistad leads Florida with 36 runs batted in this year from the clean-up spot.

In the circle Florida is lead by Aleshia Ocasio with her nations best 0.42 ERA this year while going 12-1 on the year. Delanie Gourley supports a 0.84 ERA but was on the losing end twice last weekend. Kelly Barnhill continues to keep her perfect record in tact with a 13-0 record and just a 1.36 ERA.

Scouting the Ole Miss Rebels:

Ole Miss enters conference play with a 28-10 record (4-5 in conference) and a 15-2 home mark.

Ole Miss enters the weekend with a .313 batting average while hitting just 19 home runs on the year.

Elantra Cox paces Ole Miss with a .423 batting average but is followed closely by Hailey Lunderman who is hitting .422 on the year. Both hitters hit for average and neither has a home run this year.

Natalie Martinez and Courtney Syrett lead Ole Miss with four home runs apiece this year.

In the circle Ole Miss has a 2.62 ERA on the year while having an opponents batting average of .216 against them.

Madi Osias is Ole Miss’ ace with a 15-3 record in 16 starts but she has a high ERA of 2.72 in 105.1 innings pitched.

Elisha Jahnke is 6-4 in 21 appearances and also has a high ERA of 2.97 this year in 73 innings pitched.
