Washington talks recent Florida Gators offer

The Florida Gators didn’t host a lot of 2018 visitors on campus for the Texas A&M game but several big name 2019 prospects were in town for that game.

2019 defensive back Woodi Washington (5-11, 175, Murfreesboro, TN. Oakland) was one of those in town and he spoke to many coaches including head coach Jim McElwain.

“It was great,” Washington said of his visit to Florida last Saturday. “We went on the field before the game and went to the locker room and talked to the coaches and Coach McElwain. I also talked to Coach [Corey] Bell and Coach [Chris] Rumph.”

Washington watched how Bell and the defensive backs played on Saturday and he likes the concept the Gators ran.

“The defense played good,” he said of Florida’s defense. “It was a great game but just came out on the wrong end. I feel like I could fit into the defense there.”

The defensive back also got the chance to talk with Bell who explained what Florida likes about his game.

“I talked to him before the game,” Washington said of Bell. “He said I’m a great defensive back and that I’m a technician at the position.”

After talking with Bell, Washington had the chance to speak with McElwain in his office.

“When I talked to him I was with my teammates,” he said of his talks with McElwain. “He said he liked all of our film and he was glad we visited.”

Following Saturday night’s visit, Washington picked up an offer from the Gators and they had a small message for him.

“They offered me after I left,” Washington said of the Gators offer. “They said they appreciated me coming to the game and they liked my film and they wanted me to really think about coming to Florida to play.”

Washington has picked up several big offers as of late but he really hasn’t had time to process all of them except the fact that he likes Florida’s offer.

“It means a lot because they are one of the top defensive back schools,” he said of what the offer means to him. “I haven’t really gotten to think about a leader because all of my offers have came around the same time.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Washington is one of the top prospects in Tennessee next year and he’s listening to the Gators and plans to visit again.
