VIDEO: A Medley of Metaphors with Rumph & Summers

The Florida Gators were on the line the second Friday of spring practice.

Offensive line coach Mike Summers and defensive line coach Chris Rumph updated the media on their perspective units.

With bad weather imminent, head coach Jim McElwain shortened practice, only focusing on vitals.

Media was not allowed to attend as the periods were not permissible for filming, but McElwain says practice was still necessary to focus on things that would be used in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Both Summers and Rumph are fond of using metaphors to describe their player’s progress. With examples ranging from a growing flower to toddlers to a prom date gone bad, the line coaches found ways to relate Florida Gators lineman to situations a slew of fans can relate too.

A mere quote doesn’t do the delivery justice though, since the text wouldn’t portray Summers voice hoarse from yelling and Rumph’s openness that was refreshing and devoid of hardly any “coach speak.”

Since there was no media time during practice, in place of our normal post practice updates, we will visit with just Coach Summers and Coach Rumph. Watch below to hear updates from practice, how the low offensive line numbers are effecting the whole team and how Coach Rumph was stood up for his high school prom.
