North Texas wants to compete with the Florida Gators: Notebook

The Florida Gators welcome the Mean Green of North Texas to Gainesville this week. North Texas head coach Seth Littrell talked to the media on Wednesday over a teleconference. Gator Country brings you a notebook of what he said here.

  • This is Seth Littrell’s first season as head football coach at North Texas.
  • He and the rest of the North Texas coaching staff only had about three weeks to recruit their own players for 2016.
  • Freshman quarterback, Mason Fine will start against the Gators on Saturday.
  • Littrell is not worried about the freshman quarterback handling pressure of playing in The Swamp, he said he is a big competitor with a lot of confidence. “He understands he doesn’t have to be perfect,” said Littrell.
  • “I’ve always dreamed of going and playing a quality opponent like Florida,” he said.
  • Littrell played for Coach Bob Stoops at Oklahoma, Stoops is his mentor.
  • He said he hasn’t watched a lot of games this season, but he is willing to bet Florida’s defense is one of the best in the country.
  • He has enjoyed watching Jarrad Davis play, he said he has great hips and will snap your head back.
  • Littrell said Luke Del Rio managed the game against Kentucky.
  • North Texas just wants to go out and compete against Florida. They are more worried about doing their jobs and getting their assignments right.
Bailiegh Carlton
A lifelong sports fan, Bailiegh Carlton knew from a young age that she wanted to work in sports in some capacity. Before transferring to the University of Florida to study journalism, she played softball at Gulf Coast State College. She then interned for Gator Country for three years as she worked toward her degree. After graduation, Bailiegh decided to explore other opportunities in the world of sports, but all roads led her right back here. In her time away, she and her husband welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. When she isn't working, she can almost always be found snuggled up with sweet baby Ridley, Cody and her four fur babies.
