Florida picked up its sixth commitment for the Class of 2015 on Thursday afternoon when cornerback Marcus Lewis (6-1, 180, Washington D.C. Gonzaga) committed to the Gators and spoke to Will Muschamp.
“I just committed to Florida,” Lewis said. “I called Coach Muschamp and committed. He was really excited and very happy and he said he can’t wait to get me down there. He was kind of in shock when I first told him.”
Lewis visited Florida back in March and left with the Gators in the lead and he decided that he didn’t need to wait any longer.
“I decided to go ahead and do it today because it’s the right time and it’s the right school,” Lewis said. “I love Florida and I can’t wait to get down there and show everybody what I can do and help Florida start winning games.”
One of the main things that made Lewis want to commit to Florida was the way Florida’s coaches handled his commitment.
“The hands on recruitment that Coach Muschamp and Coach T-Rob showed me and how comfortable I am with Florida is why I committed to Florida,” Lewis said. “Florida feels like home to me and I love it down there. Also having Jalen [Tabor] down there because he’s one of my good friends and I wanted to play with him.”
Now that Lewis has made his commitment he says he’s solid and with Lewis moving to IMG Academy next month in Bradenton, he will be able to visit Florida more often.
“I’m solid to Florida and 100% to Florida,” Lewis said. “I’ll be getting down to Florida soon this summer for a visit maybe even earlier than that. I’m definitely going to be recruiting for Florida soon. I need to talk to Coach Muschamp and see who he wants me to recruit.”
