Humphries likes the Florida Gators defensive scheme after watching practice

Saturday was another big day for the Florida Gators coaching staff as the staff hosted several prospects on campus to watch spring practice.

One of those guys on campus was defensive lineman Jaelin Humphries (6-4, 303, Lawrenceville, GA. Mountain View) who made his first trip to Gainesville on Saturday.

“The visit went pretty good,” Humphries said of his visit on Saturday. “We got to watch practice, sit in on some meetings and talk to some of the coaches about where I would fit in at.”

Humphries who plays both defensive and offensive line in high school found out on Saturday where the Gators want him after speaking to defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

“They want me on the defensive line,” he said of where Florida wants him. “He wants me at defensive tackle and some defensive end. I want to play defensive line because that’s where I’m comfortable at.”

Grantham was the coach that Humphries talked with the most and the assistant coach explained a big need for linemen this year.

“I talked to Coach Grantham,” Humphries said on the coach he talked to the most. “He said that if I was to come there that I would have a good chance of playing as a freshman because they need help on the defensive line.”

Head coach Dan Mullen also spoke with Humphries about where the Gators see him playing and why they want him there.

“He said he was impressed by film,” he said of what Mullen told him on Saturday. “He said that after watching my film that he likes me even more on the defensive side of the ball. He took me around to meet some of the players too.”

Humphries got the chance to watch practice and he walked away impressed by the Gators defensive schemes.

“I liked practice,” Humphries said of practice. “They were going hard today. I liked the defensive scheme and I liked how they ran both the 3-4 and 4-3 defenses.”

After the visit, Humphries didn’t want to name a leader but he admits that the Gators helped their chances on Saturday.

“Florida caught my attention,” he said. “I’m planning on coming down for another visit now.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Humphries said he doesn’t have any leaders right now and he doesn’t plan to announce a decision until February. Georgia is a school that has been talked about a lot with Humphries but he says nobody is leading at the moment.
