With Dalvin Cook already committed to Florida at the running back position, the Gators are looking for their second back in this class.
On Tuesday the Gators went to California to visit one of their newly offered running backs in Imperial (Ca.) High running back Royce Freeman.
“Coach (Brian) White was at my school this morning (Tuesday),” Freeman said. “He watched me go through my workout and afterwards he talked to my coach. He gave my coach good feedback on the way to work out and also on how he evaluated my film and how he liked my style of play on film.”
Just last week, the 6-foot, 210-pound Freeman finally picked up a Florida offer.
“Coach (Will) Muschamp and coach White were the ones to offer me,” Freeman said. “It was a great offer and to come from Florida and the SEC was great. Florida is a good school both in football and academically. Florida usually has one of the football teams and they put a lot of players into the NFL and I like that.”
Right now Freeman is still trying to work out a plan to visit Florida and he says the Gators are turning up the heat on him as of late.
“Florida is definitely recruiting me a lot harder and the interest is peaking right now,” Freeman said. “Tennessee, Oregon, Stanford and UCLA are also recruiting me hard. I’m trying to plan out my visits and I may take an unofficial visit to Florida this summer and if not, I will definitely use an official to Florida this fall for a game.”
Freeman and running back coach Brian White have built a good relationship and the message from White has been simple.
“Coach White tells me that even though Florida is a long way away, he will take care of me,” Freeman said. “He tells me that I will be comfortable at Florida and that I have a good build for a back at Florida and he can help me get to the NFL.”
