Florida Gators number 2 for Auburn Tigers commit

The Florida Gators are searching for depth at the quarterback position. They currently have one quarterback committed to them in class of 2016, but are actively looking for a second one.

Saturday night Auburn Tigers quarterback commit Woody Barrett (6-2, 221, Winter Garden, FL West Orange) visited the Florida Gators and he was surprised at how well the team did.

“I didn’t think Florida could do that to them, they really surprised me,” Barrett said. “I really enjoyed myself. I just wanted to come and hang out with Stone [Forsythe]. I wanted to really hang out and see a good game.”

Not only did Barrett not think Florida could blow out Ole Miss but he was also surprised by the Florida Gators offense.

“I was shocked by the score, I didn’t expect it to be a complete beat down,” Barrett said. “I didn’t think Florida’s offense could do that. Their offense looked really good. It was a good visit and I enjoyed myself.”

Most people consider Barrett to be a running quarterback but he’s trying to prove that he can be a pure passer as well as a runner.

“I can play in any style of offense to be honest,” Barrett said. “I want to pass more so people now have to be scared of my feet and my arm. Everyone knows I can run but I want to show off my arm this year.”

Florida has yet to offer Barrett but the Auburn Tigers commit says that the Florida coaching staff says they plan to start communicating with him more soon.

“They are going to hit me up sometime next week,” Barrett said. “We haven’t really talked that much before but they said that it will change next week.”

Barrett admits that he hasn’t set up any official visits but left the door open for one to Gainesville.

“I’m planning on setting up my official visits after the season is over,” Barrett said. “I’m going to set up my Auburn one for then too.”

While Barrett doesn’t have an offer from Florida, that didn’t stop the quarterback from saying the Gators were high on his list.

“Everyone has second thoughts but right now I’m still committed to Auburn,” he said. “Auburn is number one but if I had a second choice, I would say it’s the Florida Gators. I would take them into consideration if they were to offer me.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Several people told Gator Country that if Florida does offer Barrett then the Gators would certainly give him something to think about. I think Florida will continue to evaluate Barrett this year. Barrett has a good arm and is a very good athlete.
