Florida Gators: Lewis enjoys his official visit to UF

Of the seven official visitors the Florida Gators hosted this weekend the biggest one might have been Arizona State athlete commit Jaason Lewis (6-2, 245, Virginia Beach, VA Ocean Lakes) who came away happy that he visited Florida.

“It was a good visit overall,” Lewis said. “I got to see all of the facilities and meet a lot of the coaches. The academic counselors were telling me about Florida’s academics. I had a good time.”

Lewis got his first opportunity to meet head coach Jim McElwain and the visit went well with McElwain delivering a message to Lewis.

“Coach McElwain was a nice guy, it was good to meet him in-person,” Lewis said. “He told me that he seems me as a running back and that they were going to run a multiple offensive sets. He said that they will be under center and in the spread some. Coach McElwain said that he needs big backs like myself.”

The Virginia Beach star back also had the chance to meet with running backs coach Tim Skipper during the visit.

“Coach Skipper is also a good coach and a good guy,” Lewis said. “He seems like someone that knows the position and he could teach me a few things. He told me he wanted to be able to coach me.”

Lewis has been committed to Arizona State since September but the Gators are now in the mix with the running back.

“I’m committed to Arizona State still,” Lewis said. “This visit is making me think about everything but I need to get home and talk with my parents about how this weekend went. I’m just going to go home and talk to everyone and do some research but that’s it. I’m not going to be doing anymore interviews though.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Florida made a huge jump on Lewis this weekend but the Gators may have more competition as Lewis says he may take a visit to Tennessee on January 30th. Whether he visits or not one thing is for sure is that Florida fans will have to wait a few weeks to hear from Lewis again.

  1. If the ESPN quotes attributed to Byron Cowart concerning his weekend at Auburn are correct, I would guess the Gators have 0% (none) of getting him. I predict Cowart and Ivy to Auburn. Jefferson Ole Miss or FSU. For me a very stressful time to be a Gator
