Jim McElwain officially announced the positions that his three new assistant coaches will run, as well as new roles for two existing coaches.
Chris Rumph was promoted to Co-Defensive coordinator along with his role as defensive line coach. Former running backs coach Tim Skipper will move to the defensive side of the ball, coaching linebackers. JaJuan Seider will coach running backs, Corey Bell will coach defensive backs and Brad Davis will coach the offensive line.
Rumph held a similar title during his one year at Texas (Assistant head coach for defense / defensive line coach) and was reportedly pursued by Clemson this offseason.
While Skipper has served only as running backs coach in two years at Florida he has immense experience coaching and playing defense. Skipper was a four-year starter at middle linebacker at Fresno State and is second all-time tackler (418 career tackles) in the Bulldogs’ record books. He coached the secondary as well as being defensive coordinator during stints at Western New Mexico as well as Sacramento State. He coached running backs at his alma mater from 2006-08 until he took over the linebackers from 2009-11. He joined Jim McElwain’s staff at Colorado State in 2012 as Assistant Head Coach / Linebackers coach before joining McElwain’s first staff in Gainesville.
The three new hires will all assume the same coaching roles they held at their previous stops.
Brad Davis has been an offensive line coach since 2009 when he started at Portland State and continued coaching offensive line at stops in James Madison, East Carolina and Portland State.
Corey Bell, coached the secondary at Florida Atlantic from 2014-16 before he was hired to coach defensive backs at USF by Charlie Strong in January of this year. Bell has strong ties to South Florida, graduating from and coaching at Miami Edison, where he became head coach at just 25. He also was the head coach at Miami American Senior High.
JaJuan Seider will also returns to his home state. Seider, a native of Belle Glade, played at West Virginia before transferring to FAMU his senior season. He returned to West Virginia to begin his coaching career in 2008-10 as a graduate assistant. He moved on to Marshall, where he served from 2010-12 as the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator before returning to West Virginia as the running backs coach in 2013.
