Decision day looms for offensive lineman David Sharpe (6-6, 275, Jacksonville, FL Providence) who took an official visit to Florida this past weekend.
“I plan to announce on Thursday,” Sharpe said. “I’m going to do the hat thing so I will have five teams on the table. This will be my final decision on Thursday unless something crazy happens.”
Sharpe thoroughly enjoyed his official visit although it was briefly interrupted for a Providence basketball game.
“It was great, I enjoyed it,” Sharpe said. “I got to go to the basketball game on Friday night and on Saturday I ate with the team and then watched the game. After the game I had to go to my basketball game so I didn’t get to go to Coach (Will) Muschamp’s house to eat with the rest of the visitors on Saturday night but I returned to Florida late Saturday night.”
When Sharpe was in town the Gators made news by firing offensive line coach Tim Davis and offensive coordinator Brent Pease and Muschamp sat Sharpe down and explained why the move had to be made.
“He just said that he had to get the offense and the offensive line on board and that’s why he had to let those guys go,” Sharpe said. “He said everything happens for a reason and Coach Muschamp told me to trust him and that he hoped it didn’t affect my decision.”
Sharpe’s mature mentality and his understanding of the recruiting process led him to the conclusion that the changes were ok and that it wouldn’t affect his view on Florida.
“It doesn’t affect me at all that they were let go,” Sharpe said. “Coach Muschamp said I had a great opportunity to play early and that a spot is open for me if I work hard to earn the job and that he will get the right guy for the job.”
With Saturday’s game being a huge rivalry game Sharpe was joined in Gainesville by several other recruits including the Gators future quarterback.
“They are all great guys that were on visits this past weekend,” Sharpe said. “Will Grier is a great guy and a humble guy. I was hanging out with Will a lot last weekend. He was just telling me that I should come there and stuff. We have a great relationship and we talk a lot.”
