Last weekend it was junior day for the Florida Gators and most prospects that visited were from in state, but one prospect traveled a long way to visit Gainesville.
That prospect was running back Leddie Brown (6-0, 210, Smyrna, DE. High) who made the long trek from Delaware down to Florida.
“It went great, I liked it,” Brown said. “I got to see the practices and see how everything works there. We toured the campus and got to see where the students live and stuff. And we got to see the dorms and stuff. I talked to most of the coaches too.”
During the multiple days on campus, Brown was able to see the Gators scrimmage and also practice and he liked what running backs JaJuan Seider does with his backs.
“Practice was great, very fast and up-tempo,” he said. “I really liked how fast they go out there. I already knew what Coach Seider does from his time at West Virginia. He does pretty much the same thing here and I like what he does with all of the backs.”
This wasn’t the first time for Brown to watch Seider coach in practice and he explained how the coach likes to coach up his position.
“He’s very laid back and calm,” Brown said of Seider’s coaching style. “He’s very competitive and he wants everyone to go at it. He wants everyone to succeed and perform.”
Seider met with Brown during the trip and explained to him how Florida could use him in the Swamp if he chooses the Gators for college.
“He told me that he wanted me there and that he wanted me to visit for a reason,” he said of Seider’s message. “He said that he really thinks that not only be able to run the ball but also catch out of the backfield.”
Head coach Jim McElwain also sat down with Brown and discussed a number of topics with the running back.
“Coach McElwain was pretty much saying the same thing that Coach Seider was about me being a great athlete,” Brown said of McElwain’s message. “He said that watching my film was fun to him and then he started talking to me about the education. He was explaining that Florida was one of the top academic schools in the country and that I would have all the help that I need if I go there.”
Joining Brown on the trip was his family and this was their first time to be in Gainesville as well and they liked the trip.
“My mom and my sister came with me,” he said on who joined him in Gainesville. “They really liked it, they said that Florida was a great place to be at. My mom liked talking to all of the coaches.”
This won’t be the last time for Brown to visit Gainesville, as the Delaware prospect is already making plans to return.
“I’m going to be back down there in July, I don’t know the date but it will be in July,” Brown said. “This visit helped them out but I still want to see more and learn more about them.
INSIDERS TAKE: West Virginia, Florida and Tennessee are three schools standing out according to Brown but he says he doesn’t know when he will make a decision. Brown is someone that Seider has known for a few years now dating back to his time at West Virginia.
