2014 Defensive End Board Breakdown

With the spring evaluation period ongoing, the Florida coaching staff is out seeing and talking to a ton of prospects around the country.

Over the next two weeks GatorCountry.com is going to break down each position and talk about the prospects that the Gators have offered or guys that are close to an offer.

Now that GatorCountry has went through the offensive side of the ball, we will now go through the defensive side of the ball.

We started with the defensive tackle position where the Gators would like to sign three prospects and already have one committed. Now we will move onto the defensive end position.

Norcross (Ga.) High defensive end Lorenzo Carter

The 6-foot-5, 221-pound Carter is one of the top defensive ends in the country and is set to visit Florida on June 14th. Carter has said that Alabama and Georgia stand out to him right now due to him visiting there before. A good visit for Carter will help Florida a ton.

Oklahoma City (Ok.) Douglass defensive end Deondre Clark

Clark is a prospect who has seen his recruitment sky rocket. The 6-foot-3, 231-pound Clark has talked to Brad Lawing several times but getting Clark out of Oklahoma will be tough.

Greensboro (N.C.) Page defensive end Lorenzo Featherston

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Featherston is a quiet guy when it comes to recruiting. There has been some talk that Featherston will visit Florida this summer but right now Clemson looks to be in good shape for him.

Plaquemine (La.) High defensive Davon Godchaux

Godchaux plans to visit Florida this summer and also this fall. Florida has visited the 6-foot-4, 270-pound Godchuax twice this spring and the two sides have built a good relationship early on. Florida is definitely in the mix for Godchaux.

Woodbridge (Va.) Senior defensive end Da’Shawn Hand

The 6-foot-4, 248-pound Hand is the top defensive end in the nation. Hand and Brad Lawing have a good relationship but the key right now is getting Hand down to Gainesville like he plans. It will be tough for the Gators to land Hand but a visit would go a long ways.

Winter Park (Fla.) High defensive end Trent Harris

Harris is being looked at for the BUCK linebacker position right now and the Gators lead for the 6-foot-2, 227-pound Harris. Harris has pushed back his announcement so he could possibly take other visits including one to Gainesville this summer.

O’Fallon (Ill.) High defensive end Dewayne Hendrix

The 6-foot-4, 264-pound Hendrix is another prospect who plans to visit Florida this summer. Florida has done a great job in his recruitment and Hendrix says he will wait until after the summer to cut down his list.

Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor defensive end Jalyn Holmes

Holmes is a guy Florida is looking at to play tight end or defensive end but the Gators didn’t make Holmes’ top 6 when the 6-foot-5, 235-pounder released his list last week.

Milledgeville (Ga.) Georgia Military defensive end Davonte Lambert

The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Lambert will visit Florida on June 15th and the Gators are in his top group along with Georgia and Tennessee early on. Lambert and Trenton Brown are good friends.

Southfield (Mi.) High defensive end Lawrence Marshall

Marshall is a Michigan commitment but says he may visit Florida. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Marshall doesn’t look to be leaving Ann Arbor though.

Detroit (Mi.) Loyola defensive end Malik McDowell

The 6-foot-6, 292-pound McDowell is another prospect that Michigan is in good shape for but says he may visit Florida. Right now I wouldn’t count on McDowell visiting Gainesville.

Miami (Fla.) Booker T defensive end Chad Thomas

Thomas has said he may visit Florida but the coaches didn’t visit him this spring so that visit may not happen now. Miami looks to be the leader for the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Thomas followed by Florida State.

McCalla (Al.) McAdory defensive end Cory Thomas

The 6-foot-5, 272-pound Thomas is a prospect that Florida is very high on and the Gators are trying to get Thomas down for a visit. Mississippi State is the current leader for Thomas.

Crestview (Fl.) High defensive end Denzel Ware

Ware is a prospect that Florida wants to see visit Gainesville before going any further with. Right now the 6-foot-1, 241-pound Ware has plans to visit Florida.

McDonough (Ga.) Eagle’s Landing defensive end Andrew Williams

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Williams is a prospect that Florida wants to evaluate this summer. Williams is planning on camping at Friday Night Lights.

New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr defensive end Gerald Willis

Willis has a top 3 of Florida, LSU and Texas A&M and says he may visit Florida this summer. The 6-foot-4, 247-pound has said lately that he would take a lot for him to leave LSU though.
