CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida women’s golf team finished in 15th place after Sunday’s final round of the Tar Heel Invitational.
Coach Jan Dowling’s Gators shot a final round of 292 and finished with a three-day total of 881, 17 over par. No. 3 Alabama won the event with a 28-under-par total of 836, 12 shots better than No. 1 Louisiana State. Megan McChrystal of LSU and Brooke Pancake of Alabama shared medalist honors at 11-under-par 205.
The Gators were paced by junior Evan Jensen for the second day in a row as she shot a two-under 70 that left her at 214.
“Evan had five birdies today,” Dowling noted. “She played pretty solid. I watched quite a bit of her round and she had quite a few more 10- or 15-footers for birdie so she put together a very solid, boring round of golf, which is great and she had another top-20 finish. She hit a ton of fairways and a lot of greens. She did not have to get up-and-down very much and she had a lot of birdie opportunities. It was fun to watch.”
Sophomore Mia Piccio closed with a one-under 71 that left her at 217, tied for 27th. Andrea Watts had her best round of the tournament, a one-over 73 that put her at 228, tied for 73rd. Junior Isabelle Lendl shot a six-over 78 and finished at 227, tied for 66th. Senior Jessica Yadloczky closed with a 79 for 229, leaving her in 78th place.
The Gators participate in the SEC/Pac-10 Challenge at the Stanford University Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif., Nov. 5-7.
