ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomore right-side/setter Kelly Murphy led the way once again for the Florida volleyball team, registering a match-high 15 kills (on .542 hitting) and adding 16 assists and seven digs as No. 9 Florida swept Georgia 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-11) Sunday at the Ramsey Student Center.
In helping the Gators sweep Auburn and Georgia last weekend, Murphy finished with 26 kills on .600 hitting. She averaged 4.33 kills, 5.83 assists, 3.17 digs and 1.00 blocks per set.
“We played this entire match at the right intensity level and the right effort level,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “I thought both our offense and our defense played at a pretty high level tonight.”
Florida (14-3 overall, 8-2 SEC East) finished the match hitting .368 and holding the Bulldogs to .087 hitting. Florida also outblocked Georgia 11.5 to 2.0, the biggest margin of the season.
“Good things happen when we block balls,” Wise said. “We’ve worked so hard all season long on blocking and our players have really bought into that.”
Sophomore outside hitter Kristy Jaeckel had nine kills on .421 hitting along with six digs and two blocks for 10.5 points. Senior middle blocker Kristina Johnson had a match-high six blocks, while junior right-side Callie Rivers had five blocks.
