The Florida women’s doubles team of junior Joanna Mather and sophomore Caroline Hitimana finished unbeaten after the two-day Gator Fall Classic came to a close at the Linder Stadium/Ring Tennis Complex.
Mather and Hitimana downed Florida State’s Manon Veldman and Frederica Suess, 8-1. “We started the day off really well with our doubles, we are really sharp there,” UF associate head coach Dave Balogh said.
In singles play, Mather fell to South Florida’s Irene Rehberger, 6-1, 6-0, in the morning round, but came back and defeated Florida International’s Liset Brito, 6-2, 6-2, in the afternoon.
“I was glad I could get back and play another match,” said Mather. “I was able to end the fall season on a good note and I am very excited for spring.”
In other singles action, Hitimana fell to USF’s Ecaterina Vasenina 6-3, 6-3 and sophomore Brittany Borsanyi lost to USF’s Loreto Alonso Hartinez in a three-set battle, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
The Gators will open their spring season at the Freeman Memorial Tournament in Las Vegas on Jan. 13.
