Lacroix loses in USTA/ITA Indoors semifinals

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Florida senior Alexandre Lacroix fell in the semifinals of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship, falling 6-4, 6-4 to Tennessee’s No. 21-ranked Rhyne Williams at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The SEC rivals have split their two meetings this fall with Lacroix coming out on top in a three-set thriller on Oct. 8 during the ITA All-American Championships.

Despite the defeat, Lacroix, who is No. 9 nationally, is 14-2 overall this fall, including a 10-1 mark against nationally ranked opponents, and the Frenchman is 4-1 when facing Top 25 competition.

TEXAS INVITATIONAL: Florida sophomore Bob van Overbeek reached the singles final with a pair of victories Saturdayin Austin, Texas. He beat Oklahoma’s Lawrence Formentera, 6-3, 6-2, and then beat Texas A&M’s Colin Hoover, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-1. He will meet Oklahoma’s Peerakit Siributwong Sunday for the title. The Gator is now 27-8 in his singles career.
