TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Florida women’s golf team fell one place on the leaderboard into a tie for 10th place after Saturday’s second round of the SEC Championship at the NorthRiver Yacht Club.
The Gators boast a team score of 598 after totaling 300 on day two. Florida finds itself 33 strokes behind co-leaders Alabama and Vanderbilt heading into Sunday’s final round.
“Our momentum again was killed with some big numbers,” Florida coach Jan Dowling said. “We still have a lot to play for and I still believe in the team and they should still believe in themselves. We want to go out tomorrow and continue to work on the things we need to work on to continue through the postseason.”
Freshmen Mia Piccio and Isabelle Lendl currently rank highest among the Gators. They are tied for 33rd place at 7-over-par 149. Piccio carded a 5-over-par 76 Saturday, while Lendl shot a 3-over-par 74, the low Florida score of the day.
“There were two positives that came out of today and they were both from our freshmen, which is encouraging,” said Dowling. “Mia took a huge number on the front nine and fought back. Isabelle gutted out a respectable score as well.”
Sophomore Evan Jensen matched Lendl’s 74 and climbed seven places on the leaderboard. She is currently tied for 37th at 150. Junior Jessica Yadloczky and sophomore Marika Lendl shot identical scores of 76 and were tied for 40th place with 151 totals.
Alabama totaled 278 on Saturday to jump into a tie with Vanderbilt, which totaled 281. They are both at 3-under-par 565, three shots ahead of Arkansas and six ahead of fourth-place Georgia. The Bulldogs’ Marta Silva Zamora shot 67 and was tied for the individual lead with Vanderbilt’s Marina Alex, who shot a 6-under-par 65.
