BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 16 Florida women’s tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision against No. 24 Louisiana State Friday at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
With the match tied at 3-3, 17th-ranked Megan Falcon ended the 15-match winning streak of No. 8 Marrit Boonstra of Florida with a 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles. Boonstra is now 15-1 at No. 1 singles.
LSU (12-6, 2-4 SEC) got off to a fast start in doubles action, taking the doubles point with wins on courts No. 1 and No. 3. Florida (10-7, 4-3 SEC) earned the win on court No. 2 when the No. 43-ranked team of Jessica Alexander and Anastasia Revzina beat LSU’s Hannah Robinson and Whitney Wolf, 8-7.
The Gators evened the score at 1-1 when No. 38 Revzina downed the Tigers’ Mykala Hedberg 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. LSU took the lead again with a win at No. 6 singles, but freshman Joanna Mather breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Wolf at No. 3 singles to even the match at 2-2.
Freshman Jessica Alexander gave Florida a 3-2 lead at No. 4 singles by beating Nicole Kantor, 6-3, 7-5. But an LSU victory at No. 5 singles evened the match at 3-3 to set up the final match.
Florida takes on Arkansas Sunday at 2 p.m. in Fayetteville. The Gators then return home for their final three matches of the regular season.
