BATON ROUGE, La. – Britnee Cooper had 18 kills to lead Louisiana State to a 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-22) volleyball victory over No. 6 Florida Sunday evening at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Sophomore outside hitter Kristy Jaeckel had 12 kills on .321 hitting to lead Florida (12-3, 6-2 SEC East) and the Gators out-blocked LSU 7.0-4.0, the fourth time in five matches that Florid has out=blocked its opponent.
“LSU really hit on all cylinders and I thought that their seniors played especially well for them,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said.
Senior libero Elyse Cusack had 21 digs – one shy of her season best – to lead the Florida back-row effort. Cusack, who ranks third in SEC history in career digs, now has 1,869 for her career. She also passed for a perfect 1.000 reception percentage in 24 attempts.
Junior outside hitter Callie Rivers tied her season high with nine kills on .533 hitting. Sophomore right-side/setter Kelly Murphy posted nine kills, 20 assists and four blocks in the match. Senior middle blocker Kristina Johnson tied Murphy for the team high in blocks with four. Johnson also had six kills and a .750 hitting efficiency. Junior setter Brynja Rodgers had 17 assists and eight digs.
LSU (13-4, 7-1 SEC) was led by Cooper’s match-high 18 kills on .692 hitting with four blocks.
Florida travels to Auburn Friday for a 7 p.m. EDT match.
