Decathlete Horn in fifth place

AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Florida decathlete Gray Horn finds himself in fifth place, less than 100 points behind the leader, after the first day of the two-day event in the 82nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Competing in his first collegiate competition, Horn finished his first five events with 3,835 points, just 22 points shy of Mike Morrison’s first-day freshman decathlon record from the 2007 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships. Horn is 98 points behind first-day leader Trinity Otto of Texas A&M, who has 3,933 points.

Horn opened his day with a personal best in the 100 meters, clocking 10.94 seconds for 874 points. He followed that with a 23-4¾ effort in the long jump, a 40-6¾ heave in the shot put and a 6-5 high jump. He was second in the long jump, earning 845 points. He clocked a 52.09 in his final event, the 400 meters.

The final five events will be held today at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
