COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Florida’s two representatives in the men’s singles draw were beaten in their first-round matches at the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships at Texas A&M University.
Carlos Cueto of Spain, the SEC Freshman of the Year and No. 23 in the draw, was beaten by Ohio State’s Bryan Koniecko, 6-3, 6-2. Koniecko is seeded third in the draw of 64 players. Lacroix, a sophomore from Paris, France seeded No. 33, was defeated by No. 44 Omar Altmann of Pepperdine, 6-3, 6-4.
Florida’s doubles team of Antoine Benneteau of France and Joey Burkhardt of St. Augustine will play Thursday. The Gators’ team, ranked No. 16, takes on Austin Krajicek and Conor Pollock of Texas A&M, the No. 7-ranked team.
