I did not know this, but grave measurements are an intuitive reasoning for the etymology of the term.

It’s more than “restaurant lingo”. Most of us have heard “86 <something>” for years, albeit it’s a bit passé.

    This from 2014…..

    from 2018…..

    FYI:
Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution:

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

    From the 25th Amendment:
    Section 4:

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

The FBI used to just send guys letters telling them to kill themselves, now they got people debating if restaurant terminology means something more sinister. J. Edgar is turning in his grave.

2009 Snopes article owns it as "to kill someone " (inter alia).

    Etymology of '86'

    Abe Lincoln got 86'd.

    Ditto JFK.

    They didn't "get removed".

Just like my chicken sandwich at the food truck I told them not to put mayo on (I shot it with a revolver after screaming sic semper tyrannis)

Two attempts on a person's life who is also at that time a Presidential candidate followed by an opponent using that term "86" should not be ignored and passed off. Why? We live in very dangerous times, irrespective of one's political bent. When Obama was in office, it would have also been very dangerous if say Rush Limbaugh said "somebody 86 Barry from Kenya". That would and should have gotten him lots of time with the Secret Service and FBI.

I saw, and came within a foot or two, of shaking or touching President John F. Kennedy's hand just a few days before he was assassinated. It is a very serious subject from my perspective.

What’s the ‘investigation’ going to be? Are they expecting to uncover something?

    Right here
The simple answer is that 86 doesn’t usually mean assassinate (as I demonstrated above). And the guy who posted it said that he didn’t know it could mean that. What else should do? Arrest the guy?

"The guy who posted it" being one James Comey, former director of the FBI.

The thought of THAT guy, not knowing what "86" means, especially with in organized crime circles, is laughable.

    Dude's a malevolent twit.

    If anyone could uss 86'd....

Preemptively--what, I'm just talking about like you know, *removing him* from the public eye...
