    …from the menu/availability because we are out of it. That’s my recollection from my restaurant working days. It has roots in military jargon and it was a retired Marine that used it most at the restaurant I worked at in my early work years.

    This is from the internet so it cant be wrong.

    During Prohibition, speakeasies like Chumley's in Greenwich Village, located at 86 Bedford Street, needed a way to alert customers of impending police raids. Customers would be told to "86" or leave, referring to the address.

    …or Article 86 defining AWOL - meaning gone.

    886. Art. 86. Absence without leave
    Any member of the armed forces who, without authority-

    (1) fails to go to his appointed place of duty at the time prescribed;

    (2) goes from that place; or

    (3) absents himself or remains absent from his unit, organization, or place of duty at which he is required to be at the time prescribed;

    Apparently this has been a known thing on social media for a while. Here is a Trump MAGA guy's screenshot from '22 saying the same thing about Biden.

    I find it really hard to believe that Comey just happened to see some shells in the sand, did not know what it meant but decided to tweet it, and it just turns out that it happens to be a derogatory thing about the POTUS who fired him, the week before his book comes out.

    True. If he hasn't regularly posted lots and lots of pictures of seashells, then this is very very bad.

    Right here
    I do feel like this thread is from some parallel dimension. If you google “what does 86 mean”, you get this:

    verb
    INFORMAL•NORTH AMERICAN
    verb: 86
    1. 1.
      eject or bar (someone) from a restaurant, bar, etc.
      "they were accused of cheating, and eighty-sixed from their favorite casino"

    2. 2.
    reject, discard, or cancel.
    "the passwords will be 86ed by next October"
    If you look around, you’ll find this exact same phrasing has been used many times to mean replace a politician.

    Yet, many find it ridiculous to even suggest that perhaps the word is being used in the same way that it is officially defined and most commonly used. It’s hard to comprehend.

    You left out the definition from the same page:

    86
    To remove, end usage, or take something out or away.

    Where does the term “86” come from?

    Not slang for murder. If he had said 187 instead of 86, there may be something to it. This one is a reach.

    It's been used as to assassinate, according to some people. Words and phrases change all the time.

    It certainly does NOT have the same meaning that restaurant people use it for. And the ex-FBI Director knows what he meant to say... and I doubt he's using restaurant lingo.

    Comey is a Republican and they do have a history of attempting to assassinate Trump, perhaps they are on to something
