The 17th ranked Florida Gators (13-4) soccer team went on the road to take on the Missouri Tigers (11-6-1) for the final game of the regular season on Thursday. The Gators came away with a 1-0 win in a hard fought game.
Florida struggled with Mizzou’s high pressure style of play to start the game and could not get a shot off until the 19th minute of play.
The Tigers began to wear down in the last few minutes of the first half, giving the Gators an opportunity to strike. Freshman Julia Lester scored Florida’s only goal off of a corner kick in the 36th minute.
Missouri attempted to make a comeback as the game came to a close. In the 80th minute, the Tigers put a ball in the back of the net on a corner kick in a play that would have tied the game. The score was erased by a questionable offside call.
Mizzou played with high intensity to finish the game, but the Gators managed to hold them off and secure the win.
Much of the game was determined by several beautiful saves by both goal keepers throughout the night. Missouri outshot Florida 16-14 on the night. The Gators led in shots on goal 7-4.
