GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida Football team is gearing up for the 2008 Orange & Blue Debut on April 12. As part of a continuing effort by Urban Meyer to thank UF students for their incredible support, the team is hosting a series of contests in which University of Florida students can demonstrate their skills against members of the 2008 football squad.
The University of Florida Fastest Student contest will allow contestants to test their speed versus UF football players. In addition to being UF students, contestants cannot be current or former student-athletes. Trials will be held at 4 p.m. on March 27 and April 3 on the Football Practice Field. Each participant will be timed twice in the 40-yard dash, with the top 15 fastest times advancing to the semi-finals. Participants may try out during both trials in an effort to advance. Semifinals for the event will be held on April 10 at 4 p.m. on the Football Practice Field. During the semi-finals each participant will be timed two times in the 40-yard dash. The top five fastest times will advance to the finals. The finals will take place prior to the Orange & Blue Debut on April 12.
In addition to the Fastest Student contest, participants (one male and one female per contest) can enter a raffle for a chance to participate in one of the following contests prior to the Orange & Blue Debut:
● Catch a pass from Tim Tebow
● Catch a punt from Chas Henry
● Kick a 25-yard Field Goal
● Receive a kickoff from a Gator Kicker
Additional prizes will be handed out as part of the Fastest Student contest. The first 100 participants each day of the trials will receive a Gator Football Speed Camp t-shirt. The top five competitors in the contest will also receive Nike warm-ups, sneakers, a hat and t-shirt.
