After missing out on the Boozer twins in the 2025 class the Florida Gators coaching staff has moved on to a top target in 2026, in-state product Alex Constanza.
If this is your first time hearing that name, trust me–it won’t be the last.
Currently Constanza is the 11th ranked player in the 2026 class, and the second ranked player in the state of Florida. Recruiting the state of Florida has been a focus of Todd Golden since coming to Gainesville and they’re trying to sell the Miami product to stay in state.
Standing at 6’8”, Constanza has prototypical size for the wing position. Despite being a 2026 player, he also has started to fill out at 207 pounds which suggests by the time he gets to college he’ll be looking like a pro from a physical standpoint. However, what makes Constanza so special is that despite his excellent measurables–those often don’t even come up when evaluators talk about his game. What comes up is a common theme–that he might be the best scorer in the country. When you watch one of these games it doesn’t take long to see that impact starting with his limitless range from three, with the ball gently coming off his fingertips with the perfect amount of backspin to softly land in the net. Then, you’ll see the way he can get into the midrange and spin into pull-up jumpers which at 6’8” are completely unblockable, allowing him to take the shot as if the defender wasn’t even there. Finally, you’ll see the way he’s able to finish at the rim. With such lethal touch from the outside defenders will do whatever possible to protect against the jumpshot, and when that happens Constanza is more than happy to attack with the dribble and get into the paint where finishing comes easily.
When you look at the purest scorers to come out of high school recently, usually you are looking at guards that are under 6’4”, or dominant big men that are 7’0” and can overwhelm their opponents physically. There haven’t been a lot of the NBA-style 6’8” shot making phenoms in recent years, and that makes Constanza stand out as someone that could be special at the college level (for likely one year before going to the NBA). The only things keeping Constanza from being considered today as the best player in the class are his defense and athleticism, and even if those things don’t turn out to be massive strengths his pure scoring ability is going to carry him a long, long ways.
It’s early and all the big dogs are certain to get involved, but right now Constanza is hearing the most from Florida, Alabama, Miami, Auburn, Syracuse, Creighton, St. John’s, and Georgia, among others. As would be expected from a player of this caliber it’s going to be a difficult recruitment, but the Gators are hoping they might win out due to an edge they have over their opponents.
Constanza currently attends Westminster Academy, a school also attended by Alex Lloyd, Florida’s top recruit in the 2025 class. Lloyd and Constanza combine to make one of the most lethal scoring duos in high school basketball and they have received a lot of press for their chemistry on the court. If that connection continues through Lloyd’s senior year, there is a chance that Constanza would try to keep the magic going by joining him at Florida.
As mentioned previously Constanza is in the class of 2026, though as is the case with seemingly all top prospects these days, a reclassification to 2025 is on the table. Reclassifications, even among elite players, have had mixed results, but if Constanza was looking to do that Florida would be more than willing to accommodate. Joining Alex Lloyd in the same class would be something Florida could sell in a way that gives them an advantage over the other schools recruiting Constanza, so you might expect it to be part of the pitch.
Florida has attended a number of Constanza’s games over the summer and will look to stay right in the mix until he starts paring down his list of schools.
