The Gators landed one of the top available players in the transfer portal when Arkansas guard Boogie Fland committed to Florida on Tuesday morning, according to ESPN insider Shams Charania.
Fland, a 6’2, 175-pound guard out of Bronx, New York, averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game in his first season at the collegiate level. Fland shot 37.9% from the field, 34.0% from three-point range, and 83.3% from the charity stripe.
After a two-month absence, Fland returned from injury in the NCAA Tournament but didn’t look like himself, scoring six points against Kansas and St. Johns before failing to score in just nine minutes vs Texas Tech in the Sweet 16.
Even still, Fland was a finalist for the Kyle Macy Award, which honors the Nation’s top freshman. Fland also was tabbed a Freshman All-America by CollegeInsider.com for his efforts last season.
Fland was a five-star recruit and a McDonalds All American out of Archbishop Stepinac High School in the 2024 class. As a highly touted prospect, Fland entered his name in the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. After three days at the NBA Combine, Fland withdrew his name from the NBA Draft to pursue another year of college basketball. The 6’2 guard was No. 42 in ESPN’s NBA Draft rankings and was a projected second-round pick in the latest mock drafts.
Fland is fresh off his first visit to Florida, arriving in Gainesville on Monday to meet with the Gators’ staff.
After losing a trio of senior guards and Denzel Aberdeen to Kentucky, Florida needed to replace four of their top six scorers from their National Championship season. While undersized, Fland is a productive scorer that can run in transition, something Golden and his staff look for in portal additions. Fland joins Princeton’s Xaivian Lee and Ohio’s AJ Brown as additions this portal cycle.
If Florida forward Alex Condon withdraws his name from the 2025 NBA Draft, the Gators will have one scholarship spot remaining.
