The No.7 Florida Gators swept Harvard this weekend, outscoring the Crimson 41-6 in 21 innings of play. After a 12-0 run rule in Friday’s game one, Florida defeated Harvard 7-0 and 22-6 in Saturday’s double header. Games two and three were shortened to seven inning contests.
It was clear from the first few innings on Friday night that Harvard was outmatched. Entering the weekend at 0-6, the Crimson had been run-ruled more often than not, losing four of their six games by double digit run totals. After losing all three to Florida, Harvard now holds an 0-9 record with six double digits losses.
There’s simply not much to take away from Florida’s sweep vs Harvard, but it’s nice to see the Gators end non-conference weekend play with a dominant series.
Third baseman Bobby Boser had a terrific weekend for the Gators, going 5 for 8 (.625) at the plate while recording at least one hit in every game. Boser led Florida with an impressive 10 RBI across the three-game set including six in game two, where the USF transfer homered twice in the first two innings. The 6’1 senior also scored seven runs throughout the weekend.
“It kind of just sparks the day,” Boser said on his two home runs. “I mean, getting those two barrels in your first two at bats is pretty huge. It builds confidence through those two at bats and then carry it on throughout the rest of the day, it’s pretty huge.”
Boser’s ability to hit for power has been a huge spark to this lineup after losing Jac Caglianone to the MLB. After hitting 15 home runs in 2023 with USF and another 12 in 2024, Boser is already at seven home runs through 17 games of the 2025 season, which ranks 2nd on UF behind Brody Donay.
Donay’s career year continued vs Harvard, joining Boser by going 5 for 8 at the plate in three games. Donay launched his team leading 8th home run of the season in game three vs Harvard. The 6’5 slugger is leading the Gators with a .442 batting average, which is nearly 100 percentage points higher than the second best highest on UF (Boser,.349). Donay’s strikeout numbers are way down from the 2024 season. After striking out on 44% of his at bats a year ago, Donay has cut those numbers in half, striking out 21.1% through 52 at bats this season.
“It’s awesome. We feed off of each other, just bounce back and forth,” Boser said on Donay. “He’s unreal. He’s an unreal hitter, great player and I’m just glad to be in the lineup with these guys and produce with these guys.”
Senior outfielder Ty Evans had a nice weekend after scuffling earlier in the year, batting 4 for 9 (.444) with two doubles, one triple, five RBI, and five runs scored. In game three alone, Evans went 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBI and four runs. Evans is a veteran leader in the locker room, and Florida is at their best when he’s playing well.
“Obviously he’s been a staple in our program,” head coach Kevin O’Sullivan said on Evans. “He’s, you know, a veteran. He’s played in Omaha a few times and he’s had some really big moments, and so I think this weekend was really good for him.”
Florida continues to find great starts from their ace Liam Peterson, who went five shutout innings on Friday night while tying his career high in strikeouts with 11. On the season, Peterson holds 0.86 ERA while striking out 34 batters in 21 innings. Peterson has earned the win in each of his four starts. Peterson looks to be much more in control on the mound compared to his freshman campaign a year ago. Baseball America recently named the 6’5 right hander the No.1 pitcher in the 2026 MLB Draft class.
The ‘preseason’ is over for Florida, who sport a 15-2 record through non-conference play. The competition is about to ramp up to an entirely different level, starting with FSU on Tuesday and a three-game series vs No.2 Tennessee.
