Following a pair of dominant appearances against Stetson and Miami, Florida freshman right-handed pitcher Aidan King was honored as the sole recipient of SEC Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. With the announcement, Florida has claimed an SEC weekly award across three-straight weeks to open the 2025 season. For King, the Pitcher of the Week nod marks his first-career SEC accolade.
King was nearly perfect across two relief appearances last week, helping the Gators to a 4-1 record and series win over Miami. Recording victories in both of his outings, King fired a combined 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven.
On Feb. 25 at Stetson, the Jacksonville, Florida. native recorded his first-career win with three no-hit frames and a career-high four strikeouts. In game two vs. Miami on March 1, King tossed a career-high 3.1 innings to register his second win of the week after starter Pierce Coppola left the game in the third inning with an apparent injury.
King posted a 0.00 ERA and team-low .048 batting average against in his two appearances. On the season, the right-hander is 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA, .184 batting average against and 12-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 10 1/3 innings pitched.
After a strong preseason, King looks to be a main contributor on the weekends out of Florida’s bullpen and could even push for a starting role.
King and the Gators travel to UCF on Tuesday (6 p.m. on ESPN+) before hosting Florida Atlantic on Wednesday (6 p.m. on SEC Network+).
