Wingo says the Florida Gators are “kind of at the top”

The Florida Gators held their final practice on Saturday before the team heads into spring break and several top targets were on campus for the practice.

Receiver Somourian Wingo (6-2, 180, St. Augustine, FL. High) was on campus and enjoyed getting to hang out with the coaches.

“It went smooth,” Wingo said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “Everything was great, I got there in the morning, and I left around like 3:00. It was just good to be back on campus and get to hang out with Coach G [Billy Gonzales] and Coach Nape [Billy Napier].”

Wingo got to experience what a day in the life of a Gator is like as he went through meetings and then watched practice.

“Practice went great,” he said of watching Florida’s practice. “Everything was smooth, I got to hang out in the receiver’s room go to the meetings and stuff. It was just smooth and just showing me what it would be like if I was there.”

The receiver watched his position group closely and noticed that everyone was getting reps including the freshmen.

“I feel like as many reps as everybody was getting, was wonderful,” Wingo said of the young receivers. “It’s a good thing to be a part of and just seeing all the players, all the freshmen get in and get some reps. It was a good deal.”

Receivers coach Billy Gonzales spent time with Wingo and explained to him how he would be used if he comes to Gainesville.

“It’s really just always the same thing, he’s going to do whatever he can to get me there,” he said on the message from Gonzales. “He really wants me and he’s willing to do whatever he can. He likes me at both inside and outside receiver because I can do both.”

Head coach Billy Napier also met with Wingo and explained to him just how hard the Gators plan to recruit him.

“Pretty much the same,” Wingo said of talking with Napier. “Just talking to me about my value and how important I am to the team and how hard they’re going to try and recruit me and to get me there.”

Wingo has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville, and he says that has helped him build a good relationship with the coaching staff.

“I’ve built a strong relationship with both of them,” he said of his relationship with Gonzales and Napier. “Coach G came to a couple of my basketball games, and I’ve been down there for like four of their football games. So, you know, I got to hang out with them a lot.”

After this visit, Wingo says the Gators are at the top because of those relationships and the distance from home.

“They’re kind of at the top because of the relationship that I’ve built with the staff and how close they’re to home,” Wingo said on where Florida stands for him. “I like that it isn’t a far drive from home, and they play SEC football. You know that’s just a plus and I know I’ll get better, and I’ll get developed.”

This summer, Wingo has three official visits already set and he would like to make a decision after those visits.

“I have Miami set up for May 30th through the 1st,” he said on official visits. “Florida is June 6th and South Carolina on June 20th. I’m looking to make a decision towards the end of July.”
