The Florida Gators are looking to add to their impressive receiver room in the Class of 2026, and this weekend,d they had a top instate target on campus.
Receiver Somourian Wingo (6-3, 180, St. Augustine, FL. High) was on campus, but this visit was more for his family than anything.
“The huge difference was my family getting to see what everything was about,” Wingo said of his official visit to Florida. “I’ve been here plenty of time before, so it was mainly for my family to see what it was about and then me just to have a good time and enjoy the people.”
One of the highlights of the trip for Wingo was how much attention the coaching staff showed him during the weekend.
“They show how much of a priority I really am just by being around and you know constantly giving me attention,” he said on the highlight of the trip. “The people and my host too. Everybody spending time with me and my family, just showing us what it’s really about here.”
Wingo has praised his relationship with Gonzales in the past and he says it’s at the top for him, and his relationship with the rest of the staff is growing as well.
“I would say he’s the top,” Wingo said on his relationship with Gonzales compared to others and how his relationship has grown with them. “They’ve grown a lot, just them being able to show me how much I really mean to them and showing me in person. We’re talking every day.”
Heading into the visit, Florida and Miami were fighting at the top for Wingo, and the receiver says that has stayed the same.
“I would say Florida’s definitely top two [with Miami],” he said on where Florida stands for him. “I feel like the right time is right before the season [commitment date]. I don’t think that it’ll be any earlier than probably the end of July or early August.”
The Gators have a few things working in their favor for Wingo as distance from home is something the receiver likes about Gainesville.
“Overall, just where it’s at, you know it’s close to home,” Wingo said on what he likes about Florida. “Like an hour and half away. The people here, like I said many times, the people are real. The love is real and that’s really it.”
