Willis athlete Jermaine Bishop details first experience in The Swamp

2026 four-star athlete Jermaine Bishop was in attendance this past weekend during Florida’s big upset win over the LSU Tigers. The 5-11, 155-pounder currently holds 18 offers while logging 13 interceptions and 112 total tackles so far in his high school career. The Texas native currently attends Willis High School, which happens to be the home of Florida’s starting quarterback DJ Lagway.

“Most definitely, it was better,” Bishop said when asked if The Swamp lived up to the hype. “I wasn’t really expecting the Tom Petty thing, that was kind of new to me. It was truly a blessing being able to see something like this.”

It’s still very early in Bishop’s recruitment, but the Gators are very much in the picture for the Willis athlete.

“Coach Napier being able to come in here and get this thing going. Him being able to battle after adversity and continue to coach is truly a good thing to see,” Bishop said on why Florida is in the picture.

Bishop’s biggest highlight this weekend was getting the opportunity to watch DJ Lagway showcase his talents at the next level.

“Seeing DJ be able to do what he did in high school and see him do it at this level now is unbelievable you know,” Bishop said. “I knew he’s been capable, but just being able to see him do something like that is pretty cool.”

With Bishop witnessing DJ Lagway’s talents firsthand in high school, Lagway’s success doesn’t come as a surprise to the four-star athlete.

“No sir, I’ve been with that man for two to three years now.” Bishop said when asked if he’s shocked at Lagway’s success.

This past recruiting weekend has proven to go over well with official visitors after the Gators landed three 2025 commitments in just three days. This movement has skyrocketed the Gators into the top 30 in the latest recruiting rankings for the Class of 2025, sitting at No.26 in 247’s rankings. Jermaine Bishop, a 2026 prospect, says he doesn’t have a list of top schools at the moment, but the Gators look to be a contender heading into December.
