The Florida Gators landed a tight end commit on Monday night, but they have been focused on adding two guys in this class, and they hosted another top target on campus last weekend.
Tight end Lincoln Watkins (6-4, 233, Port Huron, MI. Northern) was on campus and enjoyed the visit and being around everyone.
“It was great,” Watkins said of his official visit to Florida. “We had a great experience just being around the staff, but being more in-depth with it. It’s very attractive for us and definitely raised my love and interest by a lot, that’s for sure.”
While on campus, Watkins noticed that the atmosphere and environment around Gainesville is different than other places.
A lot of us guys were talking, me and Jake Kreul were talking about the vibe here is completely different, it’s something you don’t really experience everywhere else,” he said on what stood out. “It’s something we’re definitely down for, you know just from a player aspect and all the coaches around us. It’s a big reflection on Coach Napier and the type of people he wants to have here, and it creates a good community for us players.”
Watkins was joined this weekend by his family on the visit and they liked the time around Billy Napier and the staff.
“I know a big thing for me was talking to Coach Napier a little more, getting to spend time with him,” Watkins said of his visit. “We spent our time over the past couple of days, especially today [Sunday] with him, and our meeting with him getting on a more intimate level, you know. It’s a big decision to make so it was really important to us.”
Heading into this visit, Watkins had the Gators as one of his top teams, but he now says they are at the top.
“I would say off this visit, they’re probably at my one spot right now,” he said on where Florida stands for him. “Now, obviously, I have to give the schools an opportunity over the official visits to prove that but they really outdid themselves in this visit, that’s for sure.”
Next up for Watkins will be two more visits as another SEC school has come into the mix lately.
“So recently, Tennessee has kind of come into the mix a little more,” Watkins said on visits coming up. “So, I’ll be going down there, I guess out to Nebraska in two weeks and possibly Tennessee pretty quick here too. That’s up in the air right now for when we set that date.”
