Maddox who started his career at Alabama State played last season at UAB and will have one year left to play in Gainesville.

The defensive back was named first-team All-SWAC while at Alabama State where he recorded 41 tackles and two sacks.

Last season at UAB, he recorded 44 tackles, forced two fumbles and had one interception that he returned for a touchdown.

The Gators wanted a safety badly in the class to add depth as they lose Trikweze Bridges and DJ Douglas to the NFL.

Maddox joins quarterback Deshawn Purdie, receiver J. Michael Sturdivant, defensive end Kofi Asare, and punter Tommy Doman as transfers who have committed to Florida.
