On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted several of their top targets that are committed elsewhere on campus including one of the best receivers in the country.
Oregon receiver commit Dallas Wilson (6-3, 193, Tampa, FL. Tech) was on campus to watch the big win.
“It was electric, I got here a little late so it was 7-0 Florida was up,” Wilson said of Florida’s win over LSU. “They pulled out the win with back to back touchdowns, it was crazy out there.”
Wilson was impressed by the energy in the Swamp and the atmosphere that the crowd created during the game.
“Oh my God, touchdown after touchdown, fireworks going off every second, he said of the atmosphere. “The crowd was outstanding loud.”
Heading into the visit, Wilson didn’t know what to expect out of the Gators on Saturday but he says the Gators helped themselves with the win.
“Definitely did, I promise I didn’t think they were going to pull out the win today and they shocked me,” Wilson said if Florida helped itself on Saturday. “They showed me what I was looking for and I love that.”
Wilson has been a big fan of quarterback DJ Lagway and he liked the way the freshman played on Saturday.
“Lagway picked the team up and put them on his back,” he said of DJ Lagway. “He drove them down the field, he’s a team player and I love the way he played today.”
While meeting with the coaches, they explained to him that he could be used just like Elijah Badger is used since Badger will be graduating this year.
“Coach Napier and Billy G were telling me about [Elijah] Badger,” Wilson said of Badger’s play. “They said that’s what they need at X position and that I can come in and be that same guy. He compared me to Julio Jones and Amari Cooper and other great receivers he has coached over the year.”
Head coach Billy Napier also spent a lot of time with Wilson and explained to him why he’s needed in Gainesville.
“We had a great conversation, it was like a 20-minute conversation we had,” he said on his talk with Napier. “He was just telling me how bad he needs and how I would be a good fit for Florida and how I fit in the passing game.”
Next up for Wilson will be an official visit to Gainesville next weekend when the Gators host Ole Miss in the Swamp.
“I’m actually taking an official visit to Florida next weekend,” Wilson said. “Yesterday I said Miami and Florida were a close second to Oregon but now I think Florida is pulling ahead {of Miami].”
