The Florida Gators are on a hot streak in recruiting as they picked up their third commitment from last weekend’s official visitors.
Tight end Kekua Aumua (6-6, 257, Bradenton, FL., IMG) committed to Florida over Arizona State, BYU, North Carolin,a and Washington on Monday.
Aumua was on campus this past weekend with his parents, sister and grandma and that was enough to get the tight end to commit to the Gators.
The Hawaii native has a strong relationship with tight ends coach Russ Callaway, and he has noticed how close the entire position group is with Callaway.
“How close he is with his players,” Aumua said on what stood out about Callaway. “That’s the one thing I noticed when I first entered the room, the tight end room, was that all of them were together, it wasn’t just a tight end room, he builds a special, special connection with those guys.”
Callaway and the rest of the coaching staff have explained to Aumua just how he would fit into the offense in Gainesville.
“They said they like how I’m able to get in the dirt, put a man down, but also flex out and catch the ball,” Aumua said. “I think the tight end is such an amazing position because you can block, but sometimes they forget they can go out and catch.”
Aumua joins offensive lineman Chancellor Campbell and athlete Justin Williams as guys who committed from this past weekend’s visits.
The tight end is the 7th commit in the class as he joins quarterback Will Griffin, offensive lineman G’Nivre Carr, defensive back Kaiden Hall, defensive lineman Jamir Perez as well as Campbell and Williams.
