Steve Spurrier Jr., son of Florida Gators legend Steve Spurrier, will join UF’s staff as an offensive analyst, according to On3. Since the 2023 season, Spurrier Jr. held a number of positions with Tulsa. Under Spurrier Jr.’s direction, Tulsa’s offense in 2023 ranked among the top-35 nationally for rushing, red zone offense, third down conversions and passing yards per completion.
Spurrier Jr. brings SEC experience to the Gators, having coached wide receivers at Mississippi State from 2020-22 and South Carolina under his father. In 2022, Mississippi State threw for an average of 311 yards per game and 36 touchdowns in posting a 9-4 overall record. During his 11 seasons with the Gamecocks, Spurrier Jr. served as wide receivers coach, passing game coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and co-offensive coordinator.
Before moving to South Carolina, Spurrier Jr. spent one season at the University of Arizona (2004) under head coach Mike Stoops, two seasons as wide receivers coach in the NFL with the Washington Redskins (2002-03) and was a part of Bob Stoops’ rebuilding project at Oklahoma (1999-2001), finishing with a perfect 13-0 record and a national championship in 2000.
Spurrier Jr.’s coaching career as an assistant coach includes 22 postseason bowls, including the Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and Orange Bowl. Spurrier Jr. was also part of five conference championships (three SEC, two Big 12) and two national championships (Oklahoma in 2000 and Florida in 1996).
