Report: Brian Johnson hired by Philadelphia Eagles

According to a report from Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, the Philadelphia Eagles are in the process of hiring Florida Gators offensive coordinator Brian Johnson as their new quarterbacks coach.

Johnson excelled in three seasons with the Gators, starting out as quarterbacks coach and earning a promotion to offensive coordinator for the 2020 season. He was the first black offensive coordinator in Florida history.

Also known as one of the top recruiters on Dan Mullen’s staff, the loss of Johnson is a huge blow for the Gators.

Florida was bound to lose Johnson sooner rather than later, as he interviewed for multiple college head coaching jobs over the offseason.

The Gators finished with the top passing offense in the nation in 2020, averaging 378.6 yards per game through the air.

Before helping develop Heisman Trophy finalist Kyle Trask at Florida, Johnson got his start at his alma mater Utah. He played quarterback under Mullen for the Utes and eventually coached under him at Mississippi State as well before taking the offensive coordinator position at Houston.

Johnson takes over a quarterback room for the Eagles that includes veteran starter Carson Wentz and rising star Jalen Hurts.
