RB Cam Carroll suffers season-ending knee injury during Friday’s scrimmage

Transfer running back Cam Carroll suffered a season-ending knee injury during Florida’s second scrimmage of fall camp on Friday afternoon, Napier announced during Saturday’s press conference.

“Cam Carroll had a season-ending knee injury,” Napier said. “Cam will respond, he will get the full support of our team and organization, he’ll be back,” Napier added.

Carroll was looking to make it back on to the field after suffering a season-ending leg injury in Tulane’s first game of the 2022 season.

“It was tough being an athlete, wanting to play in a game, wanting to play that season, especially, it was kind of hard but I didn’t take it too personally because I knew that although I was not going to be able to play that season, I could still be there for my teammates, I could still motivate them, be there for them, and support them, even in my time of need,” Carroll said. “So that was kind of important to me and although I wasn’t able to play I still feel like I played a part in being able to help us reach that success.”

While Carroll was projected as the third string back in the unit, he was likely going to carve out a prominent role in Napier’s spread offense.

“I would say some of my strengths are being able to catch out of the backfield. Being able to run the ball hard, being able to protect the quarterback and most importantly, hyping up my guys and being there for them,” Carroll said on what he brings to a loaded Gators’ backfield.

The injury leaves the Gators with four healthy scholarship running backs in Montrell Johnson, Trevor Etienne, Treyaun Webb, and Ja’Kobi Jackson.
