On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted several top instate prospects on campus for the second junior day of the year.
Defensive back Ayden Pouncey (6-2, 160, Winter Park, FL. High) was on campus and he had the chance to spend time around the coaching staff.
“It was really just getting around the coaches,” Pouncey said of his junior day visit on Saturday. “I sat through a meeting with Coach [Will] Harris and saw how he coached a little more, I’ve sat through them before with him. I’ve seen pretty much everything; I’ve been through the days with my brothers. I’ve seen it all.”
Harris and the rest of the coaching staff had a simple message for Pouncey about coming to Florida.
“Just to continue the legacy,” he said on the message from the coaching staff. “There are still some things we have talk about, I have to meet with Coach Napier. They want me and they want me to continue that legacy.”
Pouncey who can play all over the field is being recruited as a corner by Harris and the staff and the defensive back believes he can play in Florida’s defense there.
“They want me at corner,” Pouncey said. “They’re going to develop me and get me where I want to go. They have a lot of corners around my size so I definitely think I would fit in. Coach Harris is a great coach and I think he will develop me.”
Earlier this week, Pouncey released a top 10 that had Florida in it and he says he will narrow that down again in the coming months.
“I just released my top 10 schools, somewhere after spring I will release a top five,” he said on what’s next in his recruitment. “I plan on committing during the summer. Miami will definitely be in there, Georgia and Syracuse too.”
When it comes time to make a decision, Pouncey says telling Billy Napier no will be tough for him because of the history of his family in Gainesville.
“It’s going to be hard to say no to them,” Pouncey said on where Florida stands in his recruitment. “It’s like a second home. I’ve been here so many times, I think they will definitely be in the final race as one of the top schools.”
So how is he a legacy??
