Penn defensive line transfer Joey Slackman commits to the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators picked up their second commitment of the day on Sunday and it was another guy from the transfer portal.

Penn defensive line transfer Joey Slackman committed to Florida over North Carolina and Virginia Tech on Sunday evening after he took an official visit to Florida last weekend.

“Let’s get to work,” Slackman tweeted on Sunday evening.

When Slackman visited last weekend, the transfer lineman was impressed by everything Florida had to offer on and off the field.

“The brand of the Gators is unlike a lot of other places,” he said on what made him want to visit Florida this weekend. “The coaches did a really good job of explaining their plan moving forward to turn this thing around and where they see me fitting into this defense and being a part of this thing.”

The coaching staff also explained to Slackman on his official visit just how he would fit into the Gators scheme once he arrives in Gainesville in January.

“They kind of stressed the same thing you’re saying about needing a guy like myself,” Slackman said on how he would fit into the defense. “I fit that big end, big tackle position, kind of what I played at Penn. They expressed a clear interest and it’s mutual and I’m sure we will be in communication over the next couple of days.”

Slackman racked up 115 tackles in his career at Penn including 50 this year that helped him receive all-conference honors last week. Slackman also has accounted for 11 sacks in his career.
