On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted one of the top prospects in the country on campus and he’s currently committed to another school.
Ohio State defensive back commit Na’eem Offord (6-1, 185, Birmingham, AL. Parker) was on campus for the first time and he enjoyed getting to see what Gainesville has to offer.
“Just welcoming me to Florida,” Offord said of the visit to Florida on Saturday. “First time in Gainesville, I enjoyed it. I watched them practice, it was intense. I love the weather out here and the environment.”
In December, off the field analyst Chad Lucas was on the road recruiting for the Gators and talked to Offord about taking this visit to Gainesville.
“Coach [Chad] Lucas, it started out with him, and I’ve been communicating with him,” he said on his main contact with Florida. “He told me to get down here and I told him I would, and I got down here and checked it out. I love it so far.”
One of the big things for Offord was getting to meet everyone and see how the coaching staff operates daily.
“Me meeting them and getting to know all of the coaches,” Offord said of the highlight of the trip. “Watching them practice and going to the meetings and stuff like that. Seeing how they operate.”
Defensive backs coach Will Harris spent a lot of time with Offord over the weekend and explained to him how he coaches his position group.
“He has a real good coaching style,” he said of Will Harris. “Teaching the guys that if they mess up, they come back the next day and fix it. He shows them NFL clips, showing them how you do it compared to how you are on the field and the off the field. He was just showing steps to it and it was a learning process. He taught them a lot of good stuff and they came to practice and showed it.”
After a successful visit to Gainesville on Saturday, Offord says he plans to return to Gainesville for an official visit.
“I’m going to end up taking an OV [official visit] to Florida,” Offord said on coming back to Florida. “I haven’t set any of them up since this was my first visit. I haven’t been on any visits yet.”
